Mark Hoipkemier

Associate Fellow
Assistant Research Professor of Business Ethics and Society

Mark Hoipkemier is an Assistant Research Professor in the Business Ethics and Society Program in the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame. He is a political theorist with strong interests in economics and philosophy, working primarily in the interdisciplinary field of politics, philosophy, and economics (PPE).

His main line of research develops the Aristotelian idea of the common good—both in the social theory that underlies the concept and in the insights it offers into contemporary institutions. His forthcoming book, The Price of the Common Good: Markets, Corporations, and Political Economy, re-envisions the moral architecture of the market economy and its relationship to politics. Hoipkemier’s research articles and other writings have appeared in The Journal of Business Ethics, Review of Politics, Polity, Political Studies, The Hedgehog Review, Political Science Reviewer, Journal of Critical Realism, and Interpretation.

Before returning to Notre Dame in the summer of 2025, he spent four years at the University of Navarra in Pamplona, Spain, and three years at the University of Virginia. He previously studied at Dartmouth College, Ludwig Maximilians Universität (Munich), the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and the University of Notre Dame.
